2015 Scholarship Recipient
Ashley Lawrence is the daughter of Marlina Lawrence who is of Jamaican and Cuban descent. Ashley graduated from the Charter School of Wilmington, and is currently a freshman at the University of Delaware. At Charter, she was very active in her classes and activities; she even took multiple honors and AP courses over the four years such as AP psychology and AP biology. She was the president of YELLSADD (youth eliminating the loss of life, students against destructive decisions), and was a four year member of URM (underrepresented minorities). In college, she is majoring in nursing and plans to minor in human development and family studies.
She is known by everyone as a very outgoing, bubbly person who loves to make new friends and experience all that life has to offer. She also enjoys helping those who are in need, which is why she is a frequent volunteer at Habitat for Humanity and A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children.
Ashley is a pediatric cancer survivor and her future has been greatly influenced by that. She plans to be a pediatric registered nurse in an oncology department so that she can take care of kids who are growing up similar to how she did; she wants to make sure that their time in the hospital is not completely a negative memory in their minds.
