Brian Richardson Valmond

2016 Scholarship Recipient

Brian ValmondBrian Richardson Valmond is the son of Rayland Valmond of Dominica and Rose Astrid Francois Valmond of Haiti. He currently attends Wilmington University majoring in Communication. Brian is a 2016 graduate from the historical Howard High School of Technology, where he excelled in both his English and Business courses. He is active in his Church community at West Wilmington Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he is an Assistant Director for their Pathfinder club. Brian has a love for reading and analyzing movies for he wants to become a Journalist or Film Director in his professional career.  The Oscar nominated Film Director Spike Lee and Oscar award winning Actor Denzel Washington are his known influences for his career path. After Wilmington University,  Brian plans on transferring back home to Queens, New York to attend St. John’s University or New York University (NYU) to double major in Journalism and Film. A firm believer in Christ he knows by maintaining his faith and continuing to work hard in his studies, the sky is the limit.

Jasmine Miller

2016 Scholarship Recipient

Jasmine MillerJasmine Miller is the daughter of Marie Miller of Jamaica and Todd Miller Sr. She is a freshman at New York University, double-majoring in psychology and neuroscience on the pre-health track. She is highly involved in theater, piano, writing, and her job as an early childhood assistant teacher. Currently participating in her university’s writing club, Writers Block, she is working toward publishing her short stories. Outside of her hobbies, working with children has influenced her academic path. She chose both of her majors to become a child psychiatrist, hoping to further impact the younger generation individually outside of an educational setting. Jasmine’s hometown is Middletown, Delaware where her mother, father, and brother reside.

Jameela Buchanan

2016 Scholarship Recipient

Jameela BuchananJameela Buchanan is the daughter of Lebert Buchanan from Jamaica and Darlene Buchanan. Jameela graduated from Smyrna High School in May 2016. She is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and minoring in Spanish at Mount Saint Mary’s University. She would also like to go to medical school and become a Sports Medicine Physician. She is involved with many activities at college such as being on the Track and Field team, MCAT Study Group sessions, Health Professions Club, Manos Unidas (volunteer for underprivileged children) and etc. She is a dedicated student and after becoming a Sports Medicine Physician she wants to give back to the Caribbean community in poverty stricken areas.

Juwel Campbell

2016 Scholarship Recipient

Juwel CampbellJuwel Campbell is the son of Garfield Campbell of Jamaica and Arianne Grant.  After graduating from Nativity Preparatory School, Juwel attended high school at Salesianum School, an all-boys Catholic School. He played basketball for all four years with the opportunity of winning the State Championship. While enjoying the basketball team, he was able to also maintain his good grades.  Since graduating Salesianum School, Juwel is now a student at the University of Delaware. He looks forward to enhancing his learning experience in order to further his growth. He is majoring in business in order to be successful in the business field upon graduation. Juwel’s journey is on-going and he is excited and proud of where his path is leading him.

Angelique Caldwell

2016 Scholarship Recipient

Angelique CaldwellAngelique Caldwell is the daughter of Claudine Clough from Jamaica and Austin Caldwell.  She is a distinguished student, works very hard towards future goals and aspirations, family oriented, and is a virtuous young lady who is always filled with the spirit of the lord. Angelique has had a fascination with oral health care; she didn’t want to be known as the cliché nurse or surgeon, but wanted to step outside of her caliber and become something different. She plans on continuing her education at Florida Atlantic University as a pre-health major and then going to dental school. Her goal is to one day open up a dental practice in South Florida and practice for a few years before going international. Her first stop will be home sweet home Jamaica, where she plans on building dental clinics, and hiring and training dental professionals to provide dental care for those in need. Angelique has a distinct passion for helping others and anticipates becoming one of the best healthcare professionals of her generation
